Finding a Reputable Breeder
Like most dog breeds out there, a Scottish Terrier
is not necessarily the breed for everyone. Though they are
intelligent, they can also be very stubborn and strong willed. For
the most part they live to please their masters, but still they
are terriers with a mind of their own and passion to
sometimes march to their own drum.
Scotties were originally
bred to go to ground and bring out their prey. So it stands to
reason that many a "working" scot can be found digging up the
family flower beds & pulling up bulbs, with never a clue that
his owner might be slightly upset with this sudden change to the
once manicured landscape!
Scotties should foremost be of
good temperament, but still of proper scottie spirit. By nature they
are territorial, and though they will not instigate a fight - they
will not be trounced if provoked.
They are definitely a "high
maintenance" dog and grooming will need to be done a regular
basis. Their coat does not just grow into a desired pattern and
remain that way; it must be maintained by either a groomer or you
can learn the art of grooming your own scot.
Though a
Scottish Terrier is not the breed for the masses if you have
been biten by the Scottie Bug then you are generally a victim for
life!
